SAINT ROSE FALLS TWICE TO NE10 SOUTHWEST DIVISION LEADER ADELPHI


ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose fell behind early in both games as Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division leader Adelphi took both ends of today's twin-bill at Bob Bellizzi Field. The Panthers (27-10-2/16-5-1 NE10) jumped out to an 8-0, fourth inning lead to the take the opener 11-6, and pushed across a run in the first on the way to a 4-1 win in the finale.
 
Junior first baseman Jack McDonald finished 3-for-5 with five RBI behind a two-run double and a two-run homer to lead the Golden Knights (19-27/11-11 NE10) offense in the matinee. Junior center fielder Zephaniah Vaughn went 2-for-4, while sophomore right-hander Sean Crowley tossed 1.1 innings of one-hit ball out of the bullpen.
 
Junior third baseman Matt Alifano went 3-for-5 with a solo homer in the seventh and senior center fielder Cooper Johnson cleared the bases with a three-run double in the third to pace Adelphi, which came into the game 21st in the country with a league leading .333 team batting average.

Meanwhile, freshman right-hander John Rizzo allowed two runs and fanned seven without issuing a walk over 7.0 innings of work to improve to 7-2 on the year.
 
In the finale, Alifano homered on the game's first pitch. The Panthers then added a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
 
Saint Rose generated some chances by putting a runner in scoring position in four of the game's seven innings, but could only get one across in the seventh on an RBI base hit by sophomore shortstop Jared Reed.
 
McDonald continued his hot day by going 2-for-4 with a pair of base hits. Graduate student right-hander Brian Wojichowski fanned two in an inning of relief.
 
As for Adelphi, junior second baseman Anthony Cipri finished 2-for-4 while junior southpaw Michael Storms tossed 6.0 innings of four-hit, shutout ball to run his record to 4-1 this spring.
 
Looking ahead, these two teams are scheduled to wrap-up the regular season tomorrow with another doubleheader at Bob Bellizzi Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm following Senior Day festivities.
Notes: Adelphi is a game up in the loss column over Southern Connecticut State, while the Golden Knights are fourth with a two-game lead in the loss column for the final postseason spot heading into tomorrow's season finale…Saint Rose has outscored its opponents 42-25 in the first inning this season…The Golden Knights are 5-7 in one-run games, 5-0 in two-run contests, and 1-1 in extra innings…McDonald now has 17 multi-hit games and eight multi-RBI games this year…He has reached base in 20 straight.
