WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The College of Saint Rose split an afternoon doubleheader at Northeast-10 Conference rival New Haven for the second consecutive day following Sunday's action at Frank Vieira Field. The Golden Knights rode an outstanding pitching performance to take the opener 1-0, before the Chargers scored 10 runs over their final three at-bats to take the finale 15-7.

Sophomore right-hander
Randall Alejo scattered three hits and fanned seven, without issuing a walk, over the 7.0 inning distance to pick up the win in the first game.
Â
He got the lone run he needed in the fifth. Junior third baseman
Tyler Osborne singled to the right centerfield gap to score junior shortstop
Jared Reed who doubled down the left field line a batter earlier to open the frame.
Â
Freshman designated hitter
Nathan Toms finished 2-for-4 to help lead the Golden Knights, while freshman left-hander Liam Carroll fanned nine in a tough-luck loss for the Chargers (22-18/7-13 NE10).
Â
Saint Rose (19-23/11-9 NE10) then scored at least a run in five of the initial six innings of game two, but New Haven pounded out seven extra-base hits to avoid the sweep.
Osborne and sophomore catcher
Derek Haughey both slammed two-run homers, while Reed added a solo shot to lead the Golden Knights. Osborne and Haughey both wound up 3-for-5, while freshman left fielder
James Ward finished 2-for-5 and drove in three runs. Junior right fielder
Steve Sanders also had a pair of hits.
Â
Sophomore shortstop Kenneth Franquiz and junior first baseman Andrew Bianco both went 3-for-5 with three RBI, while three relievers tossed 3.0 innings of shutout ball to pace New Haven.
Â
Looking ahead, Saint Rose is back home Tuesday for a 3:00 pm non-league tilt versus Mansfield. Meanwhile, the Chargers close out their regular-season docket next Friday and Saturday with a four-game NE10 series at crosstown rival Southern Connecticut State.
