GOLDEN KNIGHTS EDGED IN TWIN-BILL AT NEW HAVEN

West Haven, Conn.- The College of Saint Rose dropped two Northeast-10 Conference match-ups at New Haven today, with the host Chargers sweeping the twin-bill by the scores of 5-0 and 4-3.

New Haven junior pitcher Selena Aponte struck out six and allowed just three Saint Rose baserunners across 7.0 innings to lead the Chargers to the five-run victory in the opener.

The Golden Knight bats woke up in the second game of the day, with senior shortstop Savanna Liverio-Tyler and sophomore designated player Alysa Houghtaling each recording multiple hits in the finale.

Facing a 3-0 deficit in the top of the second, Houghtaling plated freshman second basemen Alexandra Deeter and freshman left fielder Mattison Muller with a single to left field that cut the Charger lead to 3-2.

After New Haven notched another in the fifth inning, the Golden Knights answered with a solo home run by Liverio-Tyler in the top half of the next frame to cut the margin to 4-3.

Hougtaling singled again with one out in the seventh to put the potential tying run on the base for Saint Rose (7-20/3-7 NE10). However, senior pitcher Mia Iodice registered a strikeout and groundout to close out the Chargers (12-10/6-2 NE10) fourth victory in their last five games.

Up next, both teams wrap the weekend with NE10 doubleheaders beginning at 12:00 pm tomorrow. The Golden Knights stay in Connecticut for a pair against Southern Connecticut State, while New Haven is home again for an afternoon series with Le Moyne.
Notes: Sophomore first baseman Madison Chandler leads the Golden Knights in batting average (.314) and RBI (18)...Sophomore center fielder Ciana Phillips reaches base at a .372 clip and holds an OPS of .801...Phillips has also swiped a team-high five steals in six attempts.
