GOLDEN KNIGHTS FALL IN A PAIR OF TIGHT CONTESTS AGAINST SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose fell to Southern New Hampshire today in a pair of tight Northeast-10 Conference contests at the Plumeri Spots Complex. The visiting Penmen claimed both games of the afternoon doubleheader by the score of 4-2.

The Golden Knights received multi-hit performances from sophomore center fielder Ciana Phillips, freshmen left fielder Mattison Muller, and sophomore first basemen Madison Chandler in the game one setback.

After the Penmen opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first, Chandler brought Muller around to score with a double to knot things up a 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning.

Southern New Hampshire utilized the long ball in its next turn to the plate, with freshman designated player Jordyn Resetar and sophomore second basemen Alyssa Dimauro both sending home runs out to deep left field in top of the second to re-take the lead at 4-1.

Saint Rose threatened in the fifth, loading the bases with no outs. However, the Golden Knights would come up empty in the frame when Chandler lined into a double play to extinguish the rally.

A last effort in the bottom of the seventh saw Saint Rose cut the deficit to 4-2 when Phillips scored on an infield error that also placed the potential tying run on first base.

The Penmen were able to close out the victory though as freshman catcher Ellen Fuda flied out with two runners on to end the comeback effort.

Following the big second inning by Southern New Hampshire, freshman pitcher Hannah Breen settled down to surrender just one hit across her final 5.0 innings of work.

In game two, a third inning RBI single by sophomore catcher Julia Rupinski pulled the Golden Knights even at 1-1 after the Penmen plated a run in the first inning.

Southern New Hampshire immediately jumped back ahead with two runs in the fourth, before adding another in the fifth to extend the advantage to 4-1.

Chandler singled home Muller in the bottom of the sixth to bring Saint Rose to within 4-2, but that would be the closest the Golden Knights would get in the finale.

Sophomore pitcher Leine McKechnie recorded the win in the circle in both games of the doubleheader for the Penmen (10-12/4-2 NE10).

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights host Saint Anselm for a make-up doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon, after the originally scheduled series set for Sunday was postponed due to rain. Southern New Hampshire continues west on I-90 to take on Le Moyne in Syracuse on Monday.
Notes: Chandler leads the Golden Knights in batting average (.342), OPS (.885), and RBI (16)...Phillips reaches base at a .354 clip and is perfect in all five steal attempts...Breen has made a team-high nine starts, where she has struck out 55 across 62.3 innings of work.
