ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose dropped a pair of one-run contests to visiting Assumption today at Cathy Haker Field. The Greyhounds mounted seventh-inning rallies in each game of the afternoon doubleheader to claim victories by the scores of 3-2 and 7-6.
Assumption broke a 2-2 deadlock in the top of the seventh of game one, scoring the go-ahead run when sophomore first basemen Corin Mahan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The Golden Knights trailed 2-0 early after a two-run home run in the top of the first inning by freshman third baseman Mackenzie Bruggeman.
Sophomore second baseman
Alexandra Deeter was responsible for both Golden Knights runs in the opener. Deeter drove in sophomore first baseman
Madison Chandler and senior shortstop
Savanna Liverio-Tyler, respectively, with sacrifice fly outs in the fourth and sixth innings.
In the finale, Saint Rose was forced to play from behind again after Assumption plated two runs in the top of the first.
Chandler started the Golden Knights scoring with an RBI double in the first that brought home sophomore center fielder
Ciana Phillips.
After both teams added a run in the third, Saint Rose flipped a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 lead with two runs in the bottom half of the fifth. The Golden Knights manufactured runs with a triple by freshman designated player
Isabella Milazzo that scored freshman third basemen
Abby Behrikis, followed by a sac fly from sophomore pinch hitter
Alysa Houghtaling that drove home Milazzo.
The Greyhounds (11-20/8-6 NE10)Â pushed across a run to draw even at 4-4 in the sixth, before netting another three scores in the seventh to hand a 7-4 deficit to Saint Rose heading into its last at-bats.
Saint Rose (11-24/7-11 NE10)Â scored once on an infield error and again on sac fly by sophomore
Julia Rupinski to net two runs in the bottom of the seventh. However, the Greyhound advantage was too much to overcome.
Chandler finished 3-for-4, while Milazzo went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the nightcap. Freshman pitcher
Hannah Breen struck out eight in 7.0 innings in the circle.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights return to action on Saturday against Franklin Pierce in Rindge, N.H. Assumption heads home to Worcester, Mass to welcome Bentley for a pair on Thursday.
