SAINT ROSE UPENDED TWICE AT PACE UNIVERSITY

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University manufactured the winning run in the final inning of the second game to take both ends of today's Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader 13-1 and 4-3 respectively.

The Golden Knights scored twice in the sixth frame of the finale to take a 3-1 lead after sophomore catcher Derek Haughey belted an RBI base hit and junior left fielder Zephaniah Vaughn drew a bases loaded walk.

However, Saint Rose (11-19/4-6 NE10) left the bases jammed to leave the door open for the Setters (17-11/8-5 NE10) who subsequently struck twice in the home half, before winning it in the seventh.

Graduate student right fielder Luke Jacobi delivered an RBI base hit to account for the winning run.

Meanwhile, sophomore right-hander Randall Alejo allowed three runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings of work of a no-decision outing for the Golden Knights.

In the opener, Pace jumped out to a 7-1 advantage in the sixth to put itself in control.

Sophomore second baseman Jelani Hamer homered over the left field fence in the third and wound up 2-for-4 to lead Saint Rose.

Freshman third baseman Nicholas Montagna finished a triple shy of the cycle for the Setters. Montagna went 3-for-5 with four RBI, while junior right-hander Christian Aich scattered six hits over the distance to improve to 3-2 on the year.

Looking ahead, the two teams are scheduled to conclude their weekend series with a noon doubleheader tomorrow.
Notes: Junior first baseman Jack McDonald leads Saint Rose with 14 multi-hit games on the year…The Golden Knights are now 2-6 in one-run games this spring…Alejo has allowed three or fewer runs in all seven of his starts…He has fanned a team-high 43 batters throughout 38.1 innings of work.
