PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University manufactured the winning run in the final inning of the second game to take both ends of today's Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader 13-1 and 4-3 respectively.
Â
The Golden Knights scored twice in the sixth frame of the finale to take a 3-1 lead after sophomore catcher
Derek Haughey belted an RBI base hit and junior left fielder
Zephaniah Vaughn drew a bases loaded walk.
However, Saint Rose (11-19/4-6 NE10) left the bases jammed to leave the door open for the Setters (17-11/8-5 NE10) who subsequently struck twice in the home half, before winning it in the seventh.
Â
Graduate student right fielder Luke Jacobi delivered an RBI base hit to account for the winning run.
Â
Meanwhile, sophomore right-hander
Randall Alejo allowed three runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings of work of a no-decision outing for the Golden Knights.
Â
In the opener, Pace jumped out to a 7-1 advantage in the sixth to put itself in control.
Â
Sophomore second baseman
Jelani Hamer homered over the left field fence in the third and wound up 2-for-4 to lead Saint Rose.
Â
Freshman third baseman Nicholas Montagna finished a triple shy of the cycle for the Setters. Montagna went 3-for-5 with four RBI, while junior right-hander Christian Aich scattered six hits over the distance to improve to 3-2 on the year.
Â
Looking ahead, the two teams are scheduled to conclude their weekend series with a noon doubleheader tomorrow.
