GOLDEN KNIGHTS RALLY FROM EARLY DEFICIT BEFORE FALLING 7-4 AT AUGUSTA

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The College of Saint Rose rallied from a 2-0 deficit, but host Augusta scored twice in the fifth and three more times in the sixth to upend the Golden Knights 7-4 earlier today.

Sophomore catcher Derek Haughey lifted a bases loaded sacrifice fly and freshman left fielder James Ward smacked an RBI base hit to tie the game 2-2 in the third. Saint Rose (4-7) took its only lead in the fifth when freshman designated hitter Niko Mokanos drew a bases loaded walk to make it 3-2.

However, the Jaguars (7-10) answered with its runs in the fifth and sixth, before the Golden Knights added one more in the eighth when sophomore shortstop Jared Reed and junior first baseman Jack McDonald both doubled.

McDonald, Ward, and Reed all finished with two hits to lead the Saint Rose offense, while sophomore left-hander Carson Stewart and graduate student right-handers Brian Wojichowski and Greg Allard combined to throw 2.2 innings of shutout ball out of the bullpen.

Senior center fielder Skylor Murphy went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of RBI for the Jaguars (7-10).

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are scheduled to play the first of four games over a three-day period in Wilson, N.C. Thursday with a 2:00 pm contest versus Alderson Broaddus. Meanwhile, Augusta has a three-game Peach Belt Conference series versus Young Harris College this weekend.
Notes: Ward now owns a nine-game hitting streak while Haughey has reached base in 10 straight games…McDonald paces the Golden Knights with six multi-hit performances thus far…Junior center fielder Zephaniah Vaughn was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week and junior right-hander Jared Restmeyer was named to the conference weekly honor roll yesterday.
