CARY, N.C. – The College of Saint Rose ran its win streak to four games with a pair of victories today at the D2 Challenge on the grounds of the U.S.A. Baseball National Training Complex. The Golden Knights pounded out 17 hits to upend St. Thomas Aquinas 20-6, and followed that up by erasing a 4-1 deficit on the way to a 5-4 triumph versus West Chester.

"We played two great games today. Our focus, confidence, and intensity never wavered and we stuck together as a team throughout," said Head Coach
Wayne Jones.

Saint Rose (4-5) opened up a 7-0 lead against the Spartans (2-5) and busted it wide open with an 11-run, eighth inning.

Graduate student right-hander
Anthony Amoroso fanned six over 6.0 innings of work to improve to 2-1 on the year. Sophomore designated hitter
Derek Haughey belted a three-run homer in the fifth and finished 2-for-5 with five RBI. Junior center fielder
Zephaniah Vaughn drove in four runs and junior first baseman
Jack McDonald brought across three. Vaughn, junior third baseman
Tyler Osborne, and freshman left fielder
James Ward had three hits apiece.

In today's finale with West Chester, Ward doubled home McDonald and Vaughn followed with a two-run round-tripper in the sixth to deadlock the game 4-4. Haughey then doubled to lead off the eighth, before coming around with the winning run on a Golden Rams (6-2) error.

Steve Sanders had two hits apiece with the latter clearing the fence with a leadoff shot in the second.

Stephen Orlando came out of the bullpen to hurl 4.0 innings of one-hit ball to pick up the win.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose closes out its stay at the D2 Challenge tomorrow with a 10:30 am game tomorrow versus West Virginia State.
