SAINTS ROSE OPENS FLORIDA TRIP AGAINST TOUGH OPPONENTS FROM CENTRAL MISSOURI AND BRIDGEPORT

WINTER HAVEN, FLA.- The College of Saint Rose began play at THE Spring Games today, with the Golden Knights falling to Central Missouri and Bridgeport in first day action at the National Training Center in Winter Haven, Fla.

The Golden Knights faced an experienced Central Missouri squad in the opener, as Saint Rose took a 9-0 defeat in five innings to the Jennies.

Central Missouri jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning after redshirt sophomore outfielder Makenzie Cooper sent a three-run blast over the center field fence.

After adding a lone run in the third, the Jennies broke things open with a five-run fifth inning, pairing four hits with two Golden Knight errors to increase their advantage.

Senior pitcher Gentry Wishard struck out five and surrendered only two hits across her 5.0 innings to earn the win for Central Missouri (4-9).

Sophomore outfielder Ciana Phillips recorded a double in a 2-for-2 afternoon for Saint Rose (0-3).

In the day's second game, the Golden Knights plated four runs in the fourth inning to erase a 2-0 deficit against Bridgeport. With two outs and the bases loaded, freshman infielder Emma Schaub singled to bring in two runners, followed by back-to-back RBI singles by Phillips and junior outfield Morgan Tyrrell.

The Purple Knights scored twice in the sixth to tie things up at 4-4. After Saint Rose came up empty in the top of the seventh, Brideport worked the bases loaded before junior outfielder Meg McFarland knocked a walk-off single to give the Purple Knights the 5-4 victory.

Senior infielder Savanna Liverio-Tyler reached base in all four plate appearances in the nightcap, tallying two singles and two walks. Freshman infielder Mattison Mueller went 2-for-3 with a run scored as well.

Looking forward, Saint Rose continues on at THE Spring Games tomorrow with a 10:00 am match-up with Edinboro, before capping the day against Walsh University (Ohio) at 2:30 pm.
