SAINT ROSE RALLIES FROM THREE GOAL, THIRD PERIOD DEFICIT TO DEFEAT #18 NEW HAVEN

ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose raced back from a 7-4, third period deficit to capture the biggest win in the program's brief three-year history with today's 9-8 triumph against #18 and Northeast-10 Conference rival New Haven.

It's the first win against a nationally ranked squad for the Golden Knights (5-2/1-2 NE10) who are playing their first full conference schedule this spring.

"I am so incredibly proud of this team. All of their hard work and determination have finally resulted in a win against a ranked opponent. We played for the full 60 minutes at 100 percent. This is a huge win for them and a huge win for this program. The NE10 is a special conference and we are lucky to be a part of such a competitive environment," said Head Coach Sarah Martin.

Sophomore midfielder Daria Bock tied a program record with six goals including the game-winner with 1:09 remaining after the Chargers (5-2/1-2 NE10) tied it a little more than three minutes earlier. Bock made a great play as she circled right to left around the net, pivoted back and fired home her team leading 19th strike of the season.

Sophomore goalie Dorothy Gaffney then came up with the biggest of her 11 saves by turning away a free position shot with 34 seconds left.

The outcome was still in doubt as Saint Rose failed its ensuing clearing attempt to afford the Chargers one more push. However, Bock forced a turnover with nine ticks left to put the final touch on a dramatic afternoon.

New Haven earlier ran off five unanswered goals to seemingly put itself in control behind a three goal cushion with 6:19 to go in the third after junior midfielder Annie Acquavita scored unassisted. However, Saint Rose reeled off four straight with Bock accounting for two of the goals, and sophomore midfielder Payton O'Hara and sophomore attack Kaitlyn Jolly registering the other pair to give the Golden Knights an 8-7 advantage with 8:41 to go.

Chargers freshman attack Raegan Bailey, the third leading goal scorer in the NE10, evened it for the final time with 5:28 remaining.

Overall, New Haven generated a 19-17 shot-on-goal advantage and won 11 of 21 draw controls, although the Golden Knights manufactured a 30-14 ground ball differential.

Looking ahead, both squads have road NE10 dates Wednesday. The Golden Knights have a 3:30 pm game at Saint Michael's in Colchester, Vt. while the Chargers have a 3:00 pm meeting at Le Moyne in Syracuse.
Notes: Today's game featured six ties...Bock has a goal in six of the team's seven games this season…She also has five multi-goal performances…Her six strikes this afternoon tied the school record that sophomore midfielder Deanna Ciliento established in a 16-10 win against visiting Post University on March 10, 2020…Sophomore midfielder Eileen Rattigan tops the NE10 with 17 caused turnovers.
