GOLDEN KNIGHTS OPEN NE10 ACTION ON A HIGH NOTE BY TAKING A PAIR AT STONEHILL

NORTH EASTON, Mass. - The College of Saint Rose opened its 2022 Northeast-10 Conference slate by taking both ends of today's doubleheader at Stonehill. The Golden Knights (6-11/2-0 NE10) won the opener 3-0 and finished off the day with a 5-2 triumph in the nightcap.

Saint Rose got two outstanding pitching performances from a pair of freshmen, and used the long ball in the second game to provide the recipe for a sweep.

"Our offense was able to manufacture a few runs in each game and our pitchers and catchers took it from there with some stingy defense behind them. I am really proud of the composure and resolve our team showed opening up conference play," said Head Coach Abby Arceneaux.

Saint Rose scored a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth, while freshman right-hander Hannah Breen kept the Skyhawks (4-8/0-2 NE10) off the board until the sixth in the first game. Breen fanned seven and scattered four hits over the distance, while freshman left fielder Mattison Muller and junior right fielder Morgan Tyrrell had two hits apiece to propel the offense.

The Golden Knights pushed across an unearned run in the fourth, and sophomore first baseman Madison Chandler had an RBI base hit in the fifth to account for most of the damage.

In the finale, freshman righty Isabella Milazzo hurled 3.2 innings of shutout ball in relief, while Chandler and freshman second baseman Alexandra Deeter both homered. Phillips went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Tyrell wound up 2-for-4 to spearhead the offense.

Senior shortstop Savanna Liverio-Tyler had an RBI base hit in the first, sophomore center fielder Ciana Phillips doubled to bring across two more in the second, and Chandler homered to lead off the third to make it 4-0 Saint Rose. Deeter then led off the six by belting a shot over the left field fence.

Looking ahead, both teams have NE10 twin-bills tomorrow. Saint Rose heads to Waltham, Mass. to face Bentley while the Skyhawks host Le Moyne.
Notes: Chandler has hit safely in 10 straight games at a .382 (13-for-34) clip with six RBI…She leads the team with an .829 OPS on the season…Chandler and Muller each have a team-high four multi-hit performances.
