GOLDEN KNIGHTS DROP A PAIR AT SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS

SPARKILL, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose was swept by Saint Thomas Aquinas in a non-conference doubleheader today in Sparkill, N.Y. The Spartans took the opener, 3-0, before closing out the day with a 3-2 victory.

STAC plated all three of its runs in the second inning of the first match-up, with senior designated player Carissa Della Vecchia doubling in two runs in the frame to break things open early for the Spartans.

Freshman pitcher Abbie Landrum earned the win in the circle after giving up just four hits in 7.0 innings.

The second game saw the Spartans jump out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first following a two-run triple by junior catcher Emilie Oliver and a solo home run by senior infielder Amanda Castro.

The Golden Knights got their first run on the board in the fourth after a single by junior catcher Julia Rupinski brought around senior infielder Savanna Liverio-Tyler.

Saint Rose got another run back in the fifth frame when a base hit by sophomore infielder Madison Chandler scored sophomore outfielder Ciana Phillips.

Trailing 3-2 in the top of the seventh, a single by freshman infielder Abby Behrikis brought the potential tying run to the base paths for the Golden Knights before Phillips lined out to first base to end the comeback attempt.

Chandler and Behrikis each swung well in the nightcap for Saint Rose (4-11), with both infielders finishing 2-for-3 at the plate.

After the big first inning by the Spartans, freshman pitcher Hannah Breen settled down to surrender just three hits across her final 5.0 innings of work. Della Vecchia struck out 11 in 7.0 innings to earn the victory for Saint Thomas Aquinas (4-9).

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights travel to North Easton, Mass. for a Saturday doubleheader against NE10 rival Stonehill, with game one set for a 12:00 pm first pitch. The Spartans are at Adelphi for a twin bill on Tuesday beginning at 2:30 pm.
