TAUNTON, Mass. – The College of Saint Rose earned a split at Stonehill today by taking the second game 7-2 after dropping the opener 3-0.
Â
Junior right-hander
Jared Restmeyer registered another strong performance to lead the Golden Knights (7-11) in the finale. Restmeyer fanned six and issued only one walk over the 7.0 inning distance to run his record to 3-1 on the year.
Â
Freshman center fielder
Vince Venditti went 3-for-4 with two RBI, a double, and a home run, to go along with a pair of stolen bases, to pace the Saint Rose offense. Junior first baseman
Jack McDonald also drove in a pair of runs behind a 2-for-4 effort, while freshman catcher
Niko Mokanos brought across a pair of runs as well.
Â
"We did a good job of bouncing back in the second game.
Jared Restmeyer pitched a great game and we got contributions offensively from a lot of different spots. It was a good way to end a long weekend. Our focus now turns to the Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division schedule," said Head Coach
Wayne Jones.
Â
The Golden Knights offered Restmeyer some breathing room by scoring twice in both the first and second innings. The Skyhawks (11-11) cut their deficit in half in the third, but Saint Rose tacked on three more runs in the sixth.
Â
Venditti doubled to center to lead off the game and McDonald knocked him in with a base hit. McDonald scored two batters later on an RBI single off the bat of sophomore designated hitter
Nathan Toms. Venditti then drove a two-run shot over the center field fence in the second, while Mokanos stroked a two out, two run base hit to account for most of the damage in the sixth.
Â
Junior center fielder Conor Kiely finished 2-for-3 with a run scored to pace Stonehill.
Â
In the opener, senior catcher
Samuel Brioso, McDonald, Venditti, and sophomore shortstop
Jared Reed had one hit each for the Golden Knights. Sophomore left-hander
Stephen Orlando tossed 1.2 innings of one-hit ball out of the bullpen.
Â
Meanwhile, Skyhawks freshman right-hander Peter Hass fanned 11 and walked one over the distance to go to 3-1 on the year.
Â
Looking ahead, both teams have their NE10 opening divisional series next weekend. Saint Rose is scheduled to host Southern Connecticut State on Saturday and Sunday, while the Skyhawks travel to Southern New Hampshire.
