TAUNTON, Mass. – The College of Saint Rose suffered a pair of setbacks versus Stonehill College today. The Golden Knights (6-10) got out to early leads in both games, but could not hold on with an 8-7, eight inning loss in the matinee and a 5-2 defeat in the finale.

In the opener, Saint Rose built a 5-1 lead after five innings before Stonehill scored five runs on only three hits to go up 6-5 in the sixth. The Golden Knights hung tough and deadlocked it 6-6 in the seventh to force extra innings. They then took a 7-6 lead in the top of the eighth, but senior second baseman Matt Farragher belted a two-run homer with two down in the home half to win it for the Skyhawks.

Derek Haughey had a solo home run and an RBI base hit to pace Saint Rose. Sophomore right fielder
Josh Myers finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. On the mound, graduate student right-hander
Greg Allard tossed 1.2 innings of shutout ball out of the bullpen.

The Golden Knights got off to a fast start in the finale as Haughey ripped an RBI double and junior first baseman
Jack McDonald lofted a run scoring fly out to make it a 2-0 game in the first inning.

However, Stonehill (9-9) cut its deficit in half in the second and added a pair of runs in the third and fifth innings.

James Ward accounted for the Saint Rose hits. Freshman right-hander Zach Gleason fanned eight over the distance to improve to 3-0 on the year for the Skyhawks.

Looking ahead, these two teams are scheduled to conclude their weekend series with another twin-bill on Sunday.
