ALEJO FANS 11 TO LEAD THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS PAST ALDERSON BROADDUS

WILSON, N.C. – Sophomore right-hander Randall Alejo fanned 11 and walked just one over 8.0 innings and The College of Saint Rose broke open a scoreless game with two runs in the eighth to upend Alderson Broaddus 5-1 today at Fleming Stadium.

Alejo outdueled Battlers junior right-hander Ryan Varley who kept the Golden Knights (6-8) off the board through seven-plus innings in the final game of their spring break trip.

"Today was a great team win and a great way to end our spring break. We never wavered and did an excellent job of battling through adversity. Randall Alejo pitched lights out, we played good defense, and senior captain Remington Almarante stepped up and got a huge hit when we needed it the most. We played a lot of really good teams this past week, learned a lot about ourselves, and we can't wait to get back home to continue working towards our goals," said Head Coach Wayne Jones.

It was anyone's game until the eighth when Almarante came through for Saint Rose with a two-out, RBI base hit that scored freshman center fielder Jake Ranney with the game's first run. Almarante then came around from second base two batters later on a single to right by junior third baseman Tyler Osborne.

Almarante drew a bases loaded walk in the ninth to make it 3-0 and sophomore shortstop Jared Reed lined a two-run single to center to put the Golden Knights in control.

Alderson Broaddus (0-8) pushed across a perfunctory run in the home half of the ninth when sophomore designated hitter Cameron Sheets belted a leadoff homer over the left field fence.

Six different players had a hit to account for the Golden Knights offense, while junior center fielder Alex Perez went 3-for-4 to lead the Battlers.

Looking ahead, tomorrow's scheduled 11:00 am game versus California (PA) has been canceled due to impending poor weather.
Notes: Junior center fielder Zephaniah Vaughn was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region Player of the Week yesterday…He was also chosen the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week on Monday…Junior right-hander Jared Restmeyer was named to the conference's weekly honor roll on Monday…Osborne and sophomore catcher Derek Haughey both own 10-game hit streaks…The latter has also reached base in 13 straight contests…Junior first baseman Jack McDonald has a team-high seven multi-hit performances.
