WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Host New Haven shot 62.3 percent (38-fo-61) from the floor and put five players in double-figures scoring to defeat The College of Saint Rose 90-56 in Northeast-10 Conference action this evening.
Freshman guard
Tray Alexander scored a career-high 23 points and handed out four assists, and freshman forward
Shane O'Dell added 12 points for the Golden Knights (10-9/7-7 NE10). In addition, freshman forward
Jermaine Taggart made all three of his field goal attempts to wind up with six points in 14 minutes off the bench.
Junior forward Davontrey Thomas and senior center Majur Majak scored 14 points apiece and hauled in 12 rebounds collectively to pace the Chargers (13-7/9-6) who improved to 8-2 at home on the year. Senior guard Quashawn Lane added eight points and distributed nine assists, with only one turnover.
New Haven accounted for the game's first nine points and opened up a 15-6 lead six minutes in before heading to the locker room with a 49-27 halftime lead after converting 62.5 percent (20-for-32) of its attempts from the floor. The Chargers shot nearly as well in the second half (62.1 percent) to post their second highest scoring total of the season.
Looking ahead, both teams have quick turnarounds with home conference dates Thursday. The Golden Knights host Franklin Pierce at 6:00 pm, while the Chargers take on Southern New Hampshire at 7:30 pm.
