SAINT ROSE BREAKS OUT THE BATS TO GAIN A SPLIT WITH LOCK HAVEN

NEWARDK, Del. – The College of Saint Rose struck early in the second game to gain a split of a doubleheader versus Lock Haven today on the University of Delaware campus. The Golden Knights (1-5) scored seven times in the first inning and twice more in the third to take the finale. A three-run last inning came up just short in a 4-3 setback in the opener.

Sophomore right fielder Josh Myers belted a three-run homer, freshman left fielder James Ward smacked a two RBI base hit, and sophomore shortstop Jared Reed had a two-run double to account for the first inning damage in game two.

Junior center fielder Zephaniah Vaughn finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Ward went 3-for-5 with two RBI to propel the 14-hit Saint Rose attack. Sophomore designated hitter Derek Haughey, junior third baseman Tyler Osborne, and Myers had two hits apiece, while Reed finished with three RBI.

That proved more than enough for graduate student right-hander Anthony Amoroso who fanned nine and did not allow an earned run on four hits in 6.0 innings of work to pick up the win.

Saint Rose out-hit Lock Haven 9-7 in the opener, but was felled by some tough luck. The Golden Knights left three runners on in scoring position three times in the opening six frames, while the Bald Eagles (5-5) built a 4-0 cushion heading into the last inning.

Saint Rose still almost pulled it out. Sophomore Louis Gendron provided an RBI base hit, Myers came through with a pinch-hit single to load the bases, and Haughey brought around a pair with a single to make it a one-run affair. However, the Golden Knights stranded the tying run at third to end the game.

Sophomore right-hander Randall Alejo allowed just one run on three hits in 5.0 innings of work in a tough-luck loss.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose begins its annual spring break trip Friday with a 1:30 pm game versus Saint Thomas Aquinas at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. Meanwhile, Lock Haven has a noon twin-bill Saturday at Glenville State in West Virginia.
