EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The College of Saint Rose dropped both ends of its season-opening doubleheader including a first game heartbreaker to host East Stroudsburg this afternoon. The Warriors scored the winning run of the opener in the final frame, and then used that momentum to take the second game 8-0.
In the debut, the Golden Knights snapped a 2-2 tie in the seventh when sophomore second baseman
Colette Cohen smacked a leadoff double to the right center field gap. Freshman pinch runner
Mattison Muller then scored on a two out, base hit up the middle off the bat of junior right fielder
Morgan Tyrrell.
In the bottom half, freshman center fielder Brroke McKeown tripled to center and scored on a base hit by graduate student right fielder Sofia Cecchin to deadlock the game 3-3. Three batters later with the bases loaded, Cecchin came around with the game-winner on a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior pinch hitter Gianna Coyle.
Sophomore designated player
Alysa Houghtaling went 2-for-3 with a double and freshman right-hander
Hannah Breen allowed two earned runs, and fanned five over 6.1 innings of work to lead Saint Rose.
Cecchin finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while sophomore right-hander Paige Zigmund recorded six strikeouts over the distance for the Warriors.
In the finale, sophomore center fielder
Ciana Phillips, sophomore first baseman
Madison Chandler, and Muller each had a hit for the Golden Knights.
McKeown finished 3-for-4 with three RBI for East Stroudsburg.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose will make its annual spring break trip to The Spring Games in Winter Haven, Fla. on Friday, March 4. The Golden Knights will face Central Missouri and Bridgeport that day. Meanwhile, the Warriors are back home Wednesday to face Saint Thomas Aquinas.
