DINWIDDIE, Va. – The College of Saint Rose dropped both ends of today's season-opening doubleheader to perennial national power West Chester at Shepherd Stadium. The Golden Knights fell 8-0 in the opener, and 16-4 in the finale.

The Golden Rams (2-0), who won 31 games in the last full season of competition in 2019, broke open a 1-0 first game by scoring five times in the fourth inning.

Derek Haughey and sophomore pinch hitter
Josh Myers accounted for the two Saint Rose base hits.
Â
Senior right fielder Luke Cantwell went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, four RBI, and a home run for West Chester.

In the second game, the Golden Rams pushed across five runs in the first and three more in the second to put themselves in control.

For the Golden Knights, freshman catcher
Niko Mokanos belted a leadoff home run over the right field fence in the fourth, sophomore third baseman
James Dolan doubled to the right-center gap in the sixth, and junior first baseman
Jack McDonald finished 2-for-2.

Sophomore catcher John DeMucci drove in four runs for West Chester.

Looking ahead, both teams continue their weekend stay in Dinwiddie County tomorrow. Saint Rose has a noon twin-bill versus East Stroudsburg, while West Chester faces Saint Anselm at 11:00 am.
