SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose fell on the road tonight to Le Moyne, with the first place Dolphins earning the 58-46 Northeast-10 Conference victory.
An evenly-played first half saw Le Moyne take a 24-19 lead into halftime. The Dolphins began the third quarter scoring 11 of the first 15 points, opening a double-digit lead that was maintained throughout the remainder of the second half.
Junior forward
Shamim Wambere led Saint Rose (3-12/2-9 NE10) offensively with 12 points, converting 5-of-7 attempts from the floor in an efficient shooting night. Fifth-year forward
Nina Fedullo grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in addition to recording three blocks. Ball control proved to be the difference in tonight's match-up, with the Le Moyne defense causing 20 Golden Knight turnovers, which resulted in 24 points going the other way for the Dolphins.
Le Moyne (12-3/10-2 NE10) received 18 points and 11 rebounds from senior forward Emma Brinker in the win. Junior guard Lytoya Baker added 13 points, in addition to swiping seven of the Dolphins' 13 steals on the night. Brinker holds the fourth-best nightly averages in the conference in points (17.3) and rebounds (10.4).
Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns to Nolan Gym to host Pace University, with a 1:30 pm tip-off starting an NE10 doubleheader on Saturday. The Dolphins turn around to travel to New Haven, Conn. on Thursday night to face Southern Connecticut State at 5:30 pm.
Notes: The young Saint Rose roster features eight freshmen, four sophomores, three juniors, and one fifth-year…Fedullo averages 9.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game, with the latter mark tying her for fourth in the NE10…Townes scores 9.7 points and pulls down 4.1 boards per game...She also ranks first and ninth in the league respectively with averages of 2.3 steals and 2.9 assists per game…As a team, the Golden Knights are second in the conference with 9.3 swipes on a nightly basis.
