STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose women's swim & dive team finished in first, while the Golden Knight men earned second place in the team standings in this weekend's College of Staten Island Invitational.
The Saint Rose women claimed five individual victories over the two-day event to the secure the team win, with sophomore
Mia Stroub leading the way with a pair of first place finishes. Stroub took the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.16 and 200 backstroke in 2:14.48, in addition to finishing runner-up in the 200 individual medley (2:18.50).
Senior
Laura Borrelli touched the wall first in the 50 free with a mark of 25.65, followed by a second place finish in 200 free behind a time of 2:07.35.
Sopomores
Nickolette Nesci and
Gabbie Lupe added wins as well for Saint Rose, with Nesci claiming the 100 breaststroke (1:11.78) and Lupe tallying the victory in 100 back (1:05.29). Nesci and Lupe also registered key points with multiple third place finishes on the weekend. Nesci was third in 200 breast (2:39.72), while Lupe took a podium spot in both the 50 free (25.86) and 100 free (56.07).
Sophomore
Grace King and junior
Brenna Hayes rounded out the strong performances for the women. King earned second in the 100 back and 1000 free with respective times of 1:06.11 and 12:20.22. Hayes touched second in the 100 fly (1:02.64) and 200 breast (2:37.99), to go along with a third place finish in the 200 IM (2:19.86).
Stroub, Nesci, Hayes, and Lupe would team to win a pair of relays over the course of the weekend, with the quartet taking the 200 and 400 medley relays. Stroub, Hayes, and Lupe also partnered with Borrelli to touch first in the 200 and 400 free relays.
Sophomores
James Henriques and
Nathan Greene each earned multiple victories for the Golden Knights in freestyle events. Greene won the 500 free and 1000 free with marks of 4:55.44 and 10:16.68, while Henriques dashed to first place in the 50 free (21.51) and 100 free (47.55). Greene and Henriques also earned respective runner-up finishes in the 400 IM and 100 fly
Sophomore
Aldemar Alikavazovic touched second behind Henriques in the 50 free (21.78), one of three runner-up performances registered Alikavazovic, who also took second in the 200 breast before finishing a mere 0.08 ticks off the win in the 100 breast.
Senior
Jacob Steen recorded a second place finish in the 200 IM and a third place finish in the 100 fly with respective times of 2:06.37 and 53.30. Steen also joined Alikavazovic, Henriques, and sophomore Maddox Aramini to earn first in the 200 medley relay.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are back in action at Adelphi on Saturday, January 14, 2023.
