ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose netted four scores in the second half to take a 5-0 victory over Mercy today in the second round of NCAA women's soccer championship. The Golden Knights, the top seed in the East Region, outshot fourth-seeded Mercy by a 12-4 margin, including just one shot allowed to the Mavericks across the final 45 minutes.
Sophomore forward
Mia Klammer logged a multi-point effort again to lead the Golden Knights to the victory, marking the eighth consecutive match in which Klammer has tallied more than one point.Â
Klammer chested home the opening goal of the afternoon for Saint Rose with 13 minutes left in the first half, converting a cross from junior midfielder
Lauren Amerena. Her second score of the day came 3:23 after halftime, when she dribbled across the top of the 18-yard box and perfectly struck a left-footed shot that sailed into the top left corner of the Mercy goal.Â
The margin moved to 3-0 on a low-driven free kick by junior midfielder
Carolyn Brussell that snuck past the Maverick wall and goalkeeper. Junior back
Sanna Rein and senior forward
Kaelyn Britt registered second-half goals as well for the Golden Knights. Rein headed home a 76th-minute corner kick delivered by freshman forward
Madelyn Wania and Britt found the side-netting less than three minutes later following a feed from sophomore forward
Olivia Boucher.
Moving forward, Saint Rose advances to the NCAA East Region finals, where the Golden Knights will matchup with Franklin Pierce, the region's two seed, with a date and time yet to be determined.
