ALBANY, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose fell to Franklin Pierce tonight in double overtime of the East Region final of the 2022 NCAA Division II women's soccer championship, with the Ravens receiving the game-winning goal from junior forward Hailey Goodman two minutes into the first overtime period to propel Franklin Pierce to the NCAA quarterfinal round.
Goodman sent the Ravens to a Sunday matchup with West Chester University, the winners of the Atlantic Region, on a perfectly-placed header off a cross from sophomore midfielder Eleanora Franco with 2:22 elapsed in overtime.
Franklin Pierce had gotten on the board first in the 38th minute on a strike by sophomore forward Delaney Farinha, who converted the rebound from a shot off the crossbar by freshman forward Claudia Pierce.
Saint Rose would not trail long as senior forward
Kaelyn Britt got the Golden Knights square at 1-1 less than 90 seconds later, as Britt finished a sequence that featured quality crosses from freshman midfielder
Madelyn Wania and junior midfielder
Kelly Coster.
The score would remain tied at 1-1 throughout the remainder of the regulation, leading to the extra sessions between the two Northeast-10 Conference rivals.
Saint Rose recorded a 13-8 advantage in the shot column over Franklin Pierce, and earned 10 of the 11 corner kicks on the evening. However, the Ravens would hold the Golden Knights to just the lone score as sophomore goalie Emilie Fox would finish with six saves while continually neutralizing dangerous Saint Rose opportunities with timely punch-outs.
The two-goal output from Franklin Pierce marks just the second time in 22 matches this season that the Golden Knights surrendered multiple scores in one game, as Saint Rose (19-1-3) caps the 2022 campaign with the lone blemish of the fall coming in the season-ending defeat.
