SAINT ROSE GOES FIVE SETS AT SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE

NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The College of Saint Rose suffered a five-set defeat at Southern Connecticut State tonight, with the host Owls taking the Northeast-10 Conference victory behind set margins of 26-24, 21-25, 21-25, 25-18, and 15-12.

Junior hitter Jessica Vargas recorded 21 kills in the setback for Saint Rose, marking the highest single-game kill total for any Golden Knight this season.

Freshman middle blocker Teresa Moulder and sophomore Julia Cavalcanti finished with nine and eight kills, respectively. Cavalcanti landed four aces as well. 

Junior setter Valeria Jorge tallied 43 assists and freshman defensive specialist Camryn Knight lifted a team-best 23 digs for Saint Rose (13-12/4-5 N10).

Southern Connecticut State (15-11/4-5 NE10) saw four players register 10 or more kills, led by the 17 attacks landed by Kacey Deecher. 

Looking ahead, both teams are back in action on Friday. The Golden Knights return to Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium to welcome Bentley for Senior Day at 7:00 pm on Friday, while Southern Connecticut State hosts New Haven at 5:00 pm.
Notes: Jorge ranks second in the league with 793 assists…Vargas (261 kills) and Cavalcanti (213 kills) respectively rank fourth and eleventh in the conference in kills…Cavalcanti is also first in the NE10 with 54 aces...The Golden Knights are tops in the conference with 192 total team blocks, with Cavalcanti (78), middle blocker Karleigh Fripp (65), and Jorge (60) individually owning the first, second, and fourth-highest block assists marks in the NE10.
