NEW HAVEN, CONN. – The College of Saint Rose swept Bloomfield (25-17, 26-24, 25-22) to begin the afternoon at Southern Connecticut State. The Golden Knights fell to the host Owls in straight sets (25-19, 25-18, 27-25) to complete the double-match day for Saint Rose.
Things were close in the opening set of the first match of the day versus the Bears, with the Golden Knights and the Bears knotted at 7-7 early. Saint Rose rallied off nine of the next 12 points to take control and eventually win the opening set, 25-17. A close second set between the two teams resulted in seven ties and two lead changes before Saint Rose prevailed 26-24 to take a 2-0 set lead.

Emma Strefling pulled things even at 18-18. Saint Rose would proceed to win seven of the final 11 points of the third set to finish the sweep.Â
Cavalcanti paced the Golden Knights with 10 digs on a .400 hitting percentage. Junior defensive specialists
Nadia Lau and Gabriela Boyrié each registered 10 digs in the opening match victory. As a team, Saint Rose limited Bloomfield (0-2) to a .118 hitting percentage throughout the three sets. Â
In the second match of the afternoon, Southern Connecticut State erased a 13-9 Saint Rose advantage in the first set by closing on a 16-6 run to take a 1-0 set lead. The Golden Knights held a 17-16 lead in the second set before the Owls won nine of the final 10 points to claim the set, 25-18. Southern Connecticut State closed out the straight-set victory after taking the third, 27-25. The tight final set saw neither team take more than two-point advantage throughout.

Karleigh Fripp led the Golden Knights (2-1) with eight kills in the defeat, connecting on a .467 hitting percentage on her attacks. Sophomore setter

Senior middle blocker Erika Benson provided Southern Connecticut State (2-0) with eight kills in the winning effort. Senior defensive specialist Jamie Allen contributed three aces and the Owls held the Golden Knights to a .061 hitting percentage as a team in the three sets.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose travels to Post to take on the Eagles on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. The Owls hosts Nyack that evening at 7:00 pm and Bloomfield heads to Queen College for a 7:00 p.m. match on Thursday.
