SAINT ROSE STRIKES THREE TIMES IN THE SECOND HALF TO TAKE SEASON-OPENER


ALBANY, N.Y. -The College of Saint Rose scored three times in the second half to upend visiting Caldwell 3-0 in today's season opener at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
 
The Golden Knights (1-0) struck with their three tallies 12 minutes apart after generating a 7-1 shot advantage throughout the first period. Overall, Saint Rose finished with an 18-5 shot differential, including a 9-2 margin in threats on target. The Golden Knights also manufactured seven corners, while yielding only three, and controlled possession for 64.0 percent of the match.
 
Sophomore forward Kaelyn Britt scored twice, including what stood up as the game-winner, and sophomore midfielder Jen Bartlett accounted for the other tally.
 
Britt touched home a bouncing ball at the goal line off a corner from junior midfielder Janina Mueller with four minutes elapsed after halftime to make it 1-0. Bartlett delivered an insurance marker six minutes later when she finished a feed from sophomore midfielder Tatiana Leggiero. Britt then closed out the scoring by converting a pass off the foot of sophomore midfielder Paula Toledo at the 61:19 mark.
 
In goal, fifth-year All-American Marika Laurendeau thwarted a pair of dangerous Caldwell (0-1) shots throughout the final 45 minutes to keep the shutout intact.
 
Looking ahead, Saint Rose is on the road Sunday for a 2:00 pm match at eighth-ranked Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Meanwhile, Caldwell continues North on Sunday to take on Saint Michael's at 11:00 am in Colchester, Vt.
Notes: Laurendeau now has 52 wins, which put her 10 shy of school record holder Jessica Gerski who recorded 62 victories from 2011-13…The Golden Knights have now won 13 consecutive season-openers, the last setback was a 2-1 defeat at the of hands of C.W. Post in 2008.
