SAINT ROSE SUFFERS HEARTBREAKING SETBACK TO NEW HAVEN

ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose scored twice in the final seven minutes to rally from a 2-0 deficit before Northeast-10 Conference rival New Haven spoiled the effort with the game-winner in the first overtime period.

Freshman midfielder Adam Lindström accounted for the decisive strike when he touched a cross from freshman forward Alexander Gunnarsson inside the top-left post with 6:25 elapsed in the extra session. Freshman forward Pau Santanach redirected the ball on its way through the area to pick up a second assist on the play.

The Chargers appeared on their way to a 2-0 road victory until the Golden Knights showed their grit.

Sophomore back Nick Koenig cut the Saint Rose (2-4-1/1-2-0 NE10) deficit in half when he converted a penalty kick at the 83:06 mark after sophomore midfielder Josh Elliott was pushed down in the area.

Three minutes later, freshman forward Erick Radtke pounced on a long pass up the right flank from freshman back Lucas Malmquist and pushed it past a stunned Chargers keeper Themis Kastoris to drastically alter the game's character.

New Haven, perhaps sensing a potential lost opportunity, pushed the pace at the start of overtime to come away with a victory that appeared imminent in the closing five minutes of regulation.

Overall, the match was fairly evenly played with each side possessing the ball for 50.0 percent of the time. Both squads generated 13 shots throughout the initial 90 minutes with the Chargers manufacturing a 2-0 advantage in overtime. However, Saint Rose developed a 10-5 corner kick differential and directed nine shots on target, as opposed to six for New Haven throughout the late afternoon.

Going forward, both sides have NE10 matches Saturday. The Golden Knights travel to Southern New Hampshire for a 4:00 pm date, while the Chargers host Stonehill at 1:00 pm.
