GOLDEN KNIGHTS FIGHT TO DRAW AGAINST BLOOMFIELD

ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose and Bloomfield battled to a 1-1 draw tonight at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

The Golden Knights (1-2-1) registered a 16-12 shot advantage over the Bears (1-3-1), with seven of the Golden Knights strikes accurately placed on goal. Senior midfielder Oskar Aaströem led Saint Rose with six shots on the night.

The Golden Knights controlled much of the pace, registering possession for 59.0 percent of the match. The defensive effort was highlighted by freshman goalkeeper Tomas Rozman who recorded a career-high five saves.

Saint Rose scored the opening goal of the match with 16 minutes remaining in the first half. Freshman forward Erick Radkte started the scoring sequence, beating a defender along the end line to deliver a perfect cross through the box. Aastroem met the cross with a side-winding right-footed strike that was blocked by Bloomfield junior goalkeeper Robert Kornel. Freshman defender Victor Boje Henriksen, streaking forward from his back position, positioned himself perfectly to power the deflection into the back of the net for his third goal of the season.

The Golden Knights threatened again with 34 minutes remaining in the second half, when an Aastroem header off a corner just missed the top-right corner.

Bloomfield scored the equalizer in the 82nd minute when redshirt junior midfielder Quincy Baal split two defenders and beat Rozman with a low shot from 12-yards out. Neither team would produce any more high-quality scoring chances before the final whistle of regulation sent the match to overtime.

Aastroem had the best scoring opportunity of the first overtime session, when he lined a shot from 25-yards out that flew just over the crossbar. Freshman forward Erick Radtke had a shot from inside the six-yard box with four minutes left on the clock in the second overtime period that missed the right of the frame. Both teams managed two shots during the extra time, but the score remained deadlocked at 1-1 until the final whistle.

Baal led Bloomfield with five shots, all of which were on target. Kornel registered six saves for the Bears.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose begins Northeast-10 Conference competition on Wednesday with a 7:00 pm date at Southern Connecticut State. Bloomfield is scheduled to play the College of Staten Island on Wednesday at 7:00 pm as well.
