MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior forward
Kaelyn Britt finished a feed from junior midfielder
Janina Mueller 45 seconds into the second extra session to propel The College of Saint Rose past Saint Anselm 3-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both squads today.
Â
Freshman forward
Samantha Diaz and freshman midfielder
Katlyn Krupski also scored for the sixth-ranked Golden Knights (3-0/1-0 NE10) who outshot the Hawks (1-1/0-1 NE10) 20-12, including a 12-5 advantage in threats on-target.
"It was a great team effort to win today. The heart and will of the team prevailed in overtime. Britt had a superb header to win the game," said head coach
Laurie Darling Gutheil.
Â
Saint Anselm halted the Saint Rose season-long shutout streak at 182 minutes as freshman forward Sydney Wnek made it 1-0 with a mere 2:03 elapsed. Diaz tied it 35 minutes later, which is where the match stood at intermission.
Â
Krupski afforded the Golden Knights their first lead with 10 minutes gone by in the second half although Saint Anselm junior midfielder Grace Foley provided the match its second deadlock at the 67:22 mark.
Â
Britt then came through with her third goal on the young season.
Â
Junior Kate Macaluso was forced to come up with nine saves for the Hawks, while fifth-year All-American keeper Marika Laurendau registered three stops for Saint Rose.
Â
Both teams have home matches Wednesday. The Golden Knights host NE10 rival American International at 6:00 pm, while Saint Anselm hosts Daemen at 4:00 pm.
Notes: Britt is in a three-way tie for the NE10 goal scoring lead…Laurendeau now has 54 wins, which put her eight shy of school record holder Jessica Gerski who recorded 62 victories from 2011-13…The Golden Knights have generated a 58-21 shot advantage thus far this season.
