NEW CASTLE, Del. – The College of Saint Rose wrapped its weekend competition at the Wildcat Invitational. The Golden Knights were defeated by Chestnut Hill in straight-sets (22-25, 20-25, 17-25) to start the day before dropping the nightcap to host Wilmington 3-0 (17-25, 19-25, 22-25).
Saint Rose faced a 21-16 deficit in the first set against Chestnut Hill when freshman setter
Emma Strefling delivered a strong service run, including two aces, to launch the Golden Knights into the lead 22-21. The Griffins responded to the Saint Rose rally by winning the final four points in succession to take set one, 25-22.
A tight start in set number two had the Golden Knights and Griffins knotted at 14-14 before Chestnut Hill won 11 of the next 17 points to take the second set. Junior setter Henielys Ramos had six kills and two aces to help the Griffins take the 2-0 set lead. Senior middle blocker
Cassidy Smith registered five kills in the second frame for Saint Rose. Chestnut Hill closed out the match by taking the third set 25-17. Â

Karleigh Fripp were active at the net for the Saint Rose with 4.0 blocks each. The duo of Strefling and sophomore setter
Allison Sellers combined for 24 assists. Â Ramos paced Chestnut Hill (1-2) with 12 kills and four aces in the victory.
In the second match of the doubleheader, Wilmington jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first set, on its way to a 25-19 victory. With both teams tied in the second set at 11-11, Wilmington went on a 14-8 run to close out the set, 25-22. Saint Rose built a 22-21 lead in the third set before the Wildcats won the final four points to secure the match.

Elizabeth Johnson each registered five kills in the defeat against Wilmington. Strefling and freshman setter Gabriela Boyrie registered 12 digs each, with Boyrie being named to the Wildcat Invitational All-Tournament team.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns to Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium on Friday to host Bridgeport at 7:00 pm. Chestnut Hill goes on the road to face Kutztown on Monday at  7:00 pm. Wilmington heads to Philadelphia to take on University of the Sciences on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
