GOLDEN KNIGHTS TAKE FINALE FROM AIC ON SENIOR DAY

ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose jumped out to a 7-2 lead on the way to an 11-6 triumph in the nightcap of this afternoon's Senior Day Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader versus American International. The Yellow Jackets took the seven inning opener 10-3 by pushing across at least a run in all but the first and final frames.

Junior designated hitter Francisco Infante went 4-for-8 with a home run, four RBI and a pair of doubles throughout the afternoon for the Golden Knights (8-13/6-13 NE10).

Saint Rose put itself in control of the finale by scoring six times in the second inning. Junior right fielder Steve Sanders belted an RBI double, junior left fielder Samuel Brioso and Infante both stroked run-scoring base hits, and sophomore catcher Derek Haughey lined a two-run single down the left field line to account for most of the damage.

Infante then homered over the left field fence in the fourth. Brioso roped an RBI double and senior shortstop Andrew Pedone bounced an RBI single through the right side in the fifth to make it a 10-3 ballgame.

American International threatened in the eighth when senior shortstop Angel Mendez lined a no-out, three-run double down the left field line. However, Saint Rose junior right-hander Danny Owen came out of the bullpen and retired three of the four batters he faced to strand Mendez at third. Haughey then smacked an RBI double in the home half of the frame to close out the scoring.

Sophomore right-hander Randall Alejo tossed 3.0 innings of no-hit ball to pick up the win, while fellow sophomore righty Tyrell Irvis put the Yellow Jackets (11-18/10-11 NE10) down in order in the ninth.

Infante finished 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored, Haughey wound up 2-for-4 with three RBI, and Brioso went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI.

Junior third baseman Dalton Quinn finished 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored for American International.

In the opener, junior first baseman Jack McDonald finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored for the Golden Knights. Sophomore right-hander Ethan Teixeira allowed three runs on five hits and fanned six in 5.0 innings of work to collect his first victory of the season for the Yellow Jackets. Junior right-hander Joe Oliver then faced the minimum six hitters over the final 2.0 frames.

Looking ahead, seventh-seed Saint Rose will visit second-seed Le Moyne in an NE10 Championship Southwest Division first-round game Tuesday. First pitch is set for 1:00 pm at Dick Rockwell Field in Syracuse. Meanwhile, fourth-seed American International will host fifth-seed Southern Connecticut State at 1:00 pm in Springfield.
Senior Day: Andrew McCullough, Brian Hill, Infante, Garrett Klahr, Isaiah Peace, John Braun, Johnny Pohlman, Michael Hughes, Nicholas Zuba, and Stephan MacMeans, along with Pedone and Frankie Pizzo; were recognized throughout the afternoon for their outstanding collegiate careers. In addition, three members of the 2020 senior class in Jon Montesanti, Casey Krebs, and Joe Guerette were also honored.
Notes: Pedone has a team-high 10 multi-hit performances on the year…Infante has reached base in 12 straight games…Haughey owns a four-game hit streak.
