ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose scored a season-high 12 runs to take today's opener on the way to splitting with Northeast-10 Conference rival American International. The Golden Knights also pounded out 10 hits and drew eight walks en route to the 12-4 matinee victory. They dropped the nightcap 5-1.
Â
Saint Rose scored a run in each of the first two innings and then pulled away with six in the fourth and four more in the fifth.
Â
Junior first baseman
Jack McDonald, sophomore catcher
Derek Haughey, and junior third baseman
Tyler Osborne had two hits apiece, while senor shortstop
Andrew Pedone scored three runs and reached base three times to pace the Saint Rose (7-12/5-12 NE10) offense.
Â
On the mound, junior right-hander
Greg Allard hurled 4.0 innings of three-hit, one run ball to pick up the win in relief of fellow junior righty
Jared Restmeyer. The latter fanned six and surrendered a run on three hits in a no-decision 4.0 inning start.
Â
Junior leftfielder
Samuel Brioso and junior designated hitter
Francisco Infante belted RBI doubles to highlight the fourth, while sophomore right fielder
Steve Sanders laced a two-run base hit to left in the fifth.
Â
The Golden Knights got out to a 1-0 lead in the finale, but a two-run homer by American International (10-17/9-10 NE10) senior catcher Ian O'Brien in the fourth and another two-run shot by right fielder Matt Krause, a graduate student, in the seventh proved to be the difference.
Â
Right-handers Joe Pepe and Mat Costanza surrendered just five hits for the Yellow Jackets.
Â
Looking ahead, the two squads are scheduled to conclude their series with tomorrow's noon Senior Day doubleheader.
Notes: Pedone has a team-high nine multi-hit performances on the year…Infante has reached base in 10 straight games.
