GOLDEN KNIGHTS SWEEP BRYANT & STRATTON

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose opened up an early 2-0 lead in the opener and pounded out a season-high 14 hits in the nightcap to complete a doubleheader sweep versus Bryant and Stratton on a rainy Sunday afternoon at the Central Park "A" Diamond.

"It was just great to get some games in this weekend and even better to grab two hard-fought wins," said Head Coach Wayne Jones.

The Golden Knights (6-11), who had their originally scheduled weekend series at Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State postponed due to established institutional and conference health protocols, scored a run in both the first and second innings to take the matinee 3-1. They then rallied from a 6-4, fifth inning deficit to capture the finale 9-7.

Junior center fielder Zephaniah Vaughn and sophomore catcher Derek Haughey both belted solo home runs and the latter also doubled and scored a pair of runs to propel the Saint Rose offense in the first game. Senior shortstop Andrew Pedone and senior left fielder Garrett Klahr doubled as well.

On the mound, senior right-hander Frankie Pizzo allowed a run and fanned six in 4.0 innings of work of the seven inning game to pick up the win. Fellow senior right-hander Johnny Pohlman and sophomore right-hander Tyrell Irvis held the Bobcats (4-23) hitless throughout the final three frames.

In the second game, Vaughn finished 2-for-5 and drove in three runs while junior catcher Max Gebauer homered to lead off the seventh.

Saint Rose went ahead to stay by scoring three times on four hits in the sixth. An inning later, Gebauer made it 8-6 and senior third baseman Remington Almarante scored on a Pedone single for a three-run lead. Bryant & Stratton got one back in the home half of the seventh, but junior right-hander Greg Allard retired the Bobcats in order in the eighth and ninth to pick up the victory.

Allard surrendered just two runs on five hits and fanned six throughout 5.1 innings of work out of the bullpen to collect the win.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights have a four-game home NE10 series versus American International with doubleheaders set for Friday and Saturday on Senior Day weekend.
Notes: Saint Rose has now won three of its last four…Pedone has a team-high nine multi-hit efforts on the year…He has also hit in five straight, while Vaughn has hit in four consecutive contests.
