PLAY AT THE PLATE SECURES THRILLING SAINT ROSE COMEBACK VICTORY

GOLDEN KNIGHTS SPLIT NE10 TWIN-BILL WITH SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT

ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose cut down the potential tying run at home plate to secure a 2-1 come-from-behind Northeast-10 Conference victory this afternoon versus Southern Connecticut State.

Senior designated player Kylee Warner, one of four Golden Knights playing their final home games this weekend, put the Black and Gold ahead in the sixth with an RBI double following a 13-pitch battle. She fouled off nine pitches before driving in junior rightfielder Morgan Tyrrell with what proved to be the game-winning marker.

The visiting Owls (14-12/11-11 NE10), which took the first game of the twin-bill 6-5, didn't go quietly in the seventh. SCSU put runners on first and second with one out and had junior designated player Jacqueline Dumont, who began the day hitting .392, stepping into the box.

Freshman right-hander Margaret Kelley induced the NE10 RBI leader to ground slowly to third, where senior infielder Savanna Liverio-Tyler fired to first for the second out. The runner that was on first rounded second too far, so sophomore infielder Madison Chandler attempted to throw her out at the keystone. Upon Chandler's toss, SCSU senior infielder Lauryn Zubia broke from third towards home. Sophomore infielder McKenna Ryan corralled the throw from Chandler and fired a strike to senior catcher Shannon Moore to nail Zubia.

The Golden Knights (4-18/4-18 NE10) got started quickly in the opener, striking for a pair of first-inning runs. Sophomore centerfielder Ciana Phillips, who went 4-for-7 with two runs scored on the day, and senior shortstop Ryane Brush began the rally with singles. Liverio-Tyler, who went 3-for-6 with three RBI across the twin-bill, proceeded to double home the pair. In the third, SCSU tied it when Dumont lined a single down the right field line to send two Owls across home plate.

After Brush singled in Tyrrell to put Saint Rose ahead in the fourth, the visitors answered with a four-run fifth. Sophomore infielder Morgan Tuscano doubled home a pair to highlight the outburst.

Liverio-Tyler trimmed the deficit to one with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth. The Golden Knights then got a runner on with one down in the seventh. However, SCSU sophomore right-hander Jessica Perucki came out of the pen to retire the next two batters for the save.

Down 1-0 in the nightcap, Saint Rose manufactured the tying marker in the fifth. Junior leftfielder Taylor Matlock and Phillips commenced the frame with singles, Brush sacrificed the runners over, and Chandler followed with a sacrifice fly to set the stage for the thrilling conclusion.

The teams are scheduled to wrap up the regular season tomorrow with a 12:00 pm doubleheader. Fans can watch the contests on the NE10NOW Network.
Notes: Phillips, who has gotten a hit in eight of her last nine games, tops the Golden Knights with a .366 batting average...She's hitting .464 (13-for-28) during the recent stretch...The centerfielder leads the team with 11 runs scored and nine doubles...Liverio-Tyler, who is hitting .338, has driven in a team-high 10 runs.
