ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose brought the game-tying run to the plate in the seventh, but was unable to get the big hit in this afternoon's 5-3 home Northeast-10 Conference loss to Adelphi. The victory allowed the Panthers to complete the sweep of the doubleheader, following a 6-0 triumph in the opener.
Â
Sophomore centerfielder
Ciana Phillips led the Saint Rose offense, going 4-for-4 with three doubles, a run scored, and two RBI in the nightcap. Phillips, now with a hit in six of her last seven games, finished the day 5-for-7 at the plate with four two-baggers.
Â
The Golden Knights got started quickly in the second game, scoring a run in the first and second innings. Phillips keyed the outburst. She led off the game with a double and came around to score on a single by sophomore infielder
Madison Chandler. After the visitors knotted it in the top of the second, Phillips doubled home sophomore catcher
Julia Rupinski to put Saint Rose back on top in the bottom half.
Â
Adelphi capitalized upon some Golden Knight miscues to turn the tide with a four-run fourth.
Trailing 5-2 and down to its last licks, freshman
Alexandra Deeter led off with a pinch-hit double off the wall. Phillips followed with a RBI single to bring the tying run to the plate. However, Adelphi sophomore righty Claire Fon entered the circle to secure the final two outs and pick up her second save of the spring.
Â
Adelphi (20-6/18-4 NE10), winners of 12 of its last 14 games, got started quickly in the opener by putting across a run in the first. The Panthers tacked on a pair in the third without the benefit of a hit to increase their advantage. The early support was more than enough for senior right-hander Ally Muller who fanned 10 in her three-hitter.
Freshman infielder Faith Camilleri went 2-for-6 with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored to pace the Adelphi offense.
The NE10 has its final weekend of regular season play on tap. Saint Rose (3-17/3-17 NE10) hosts Southern Connecticut State, while Adelphi entertains American International.
