GOLDEN KNIGHTS RALLY FROM FOUR-RUN DEFICIT TO GAIN SPLIT WITH NEW HAVEN

ALBANY, N.Y. –The College of Saint Rose rallied from a 5-1 deficit in game two of today's Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader to gain a split with New Haven at Bob Bellizzi Field. The Golden Knights (3-8/3-8 NE10) pushed across six runs in the sixth to take the final 7-5 after dropping the opener 6-3.

Senior shortstop Andrew Pedone finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI to spearhead the offense, while senior right-hander Austin Cole pitched the seventh to pick up his first career save. Cole fanned a batter and induced a groundout after the Chargers had put the tying run on base.

"That was a good team win. The guys fought back, stayed together and stayed focused to pull out the victory," said head coach Wayne Jones.

New Haven took a 2-1 lead in the fourth after Saint Rose went up 1-0 in the first on a sacrifice fly by sophomore catcher Derek Haughey. The Chargers then added three more in the sixth to boost their advantage to four runs.

The Golden Knights answered though in the bottom half. Sophomore right fielder Steve Sanders drove a two a run double down the left field line, Haughey scored on a wild pitch, junior third baseman Tyler Osborne singled up the middle to score Sanders, and Pedone plated two more with a base hit to center.

Meanwhile, sophomore right fielder Robert Taylor drove a two-run triple to center in the sixth and delivered an RBI double to the left-centerfield gap in the fourth for New Haven (4-4/4-2 NE10).

In the opener, Pedone went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and Sanders finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Junior right-hander Thomas Eletto allowed an unearned run on four hits while fanning six in 5.0 innings of work to pick up the win for the Chargers.

Looking ahead, both squads have conference four-game series scheduled for this weekend. The Golden Knights head to Long Island to face Adelphi, while New Haven hosts cross-town rival Southern Connecticut State.
Notes: Pedone, Haughty and senior outfielder Garrett Klahr all own four-game hit streaks…Pedone has six multi-hit games this spring…The Golden Knights have yet to allow a first inning run in 2021.
