NEW HAVEN OUTLASTS SAINT ROSE

ALBANY, N.Y. – New Haven scored five answered runs throughout the last three innings to outlast The College of Saint Rose 12-9 in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon at Bob Bellizzi Field.

The two teams combined for 27 hits and exchanged the lead four times throughout a 60-degree afternoon.

The Chargers (3-3/3-1 NE10) scored four runs in the fifth to take a 7-5 lead, but the Golden Knights countered with four runs of their own to go up 9-7. Junior first baseman Jack McDonald belted a leadoff double down the left field line, junior third baseman Tyler Osborne added an RBI base hit, and Saint Rose (3-7/3-7 NE10) took advantage of a pair of New Haven errors in the frame.

However, the Chargers pushed across three runs in the seventh and two more in the ninth to secure a win in their first action in nearly two weeks.

The Golden Knights did not go quietly. They threatened in their half of the ninth by putting two runners in scoring position with no outs. New Haven right-hander Brandon LaManna, a graduate student, then recorded a pair of strikeouts and induced a foul out to collect his second save of the season.

Junior designated hitter Francisco Infante finished 3-for-5, while junior center fielder Zephaniah Vaughn doubled and tripled in his two at bats to spearhead the Saint Rose offense. Senior designated hitter Andrew Cain and sophomore center fielder Tyler Wells both smacked three-run triples to propel the Chargers.

Looking ahead, the two teams are scheduled to conclude their weekend series with an 12:00 pm doubleheader tomorrow.
