SAINT ROSE CONTROLS PACE TO UPEND AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL 5-0

ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose controlled the pace of play throughout this afternoon that yielded five unanswered goals in a dominant win versus American International on Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

The Golden Knights (2-1) generated a 17-3 shot advantage, including an 8-1 edge in at-target threats, and engineered four corners while yielding only one. In addition, six different players figured in the scoring column.

"This was a quality win versus a talented and well-coached Northeast-10 Conference opponent. I thought the team did a great job executing a lot of concepts that we had worked on during the week. We look forward to getting back to the field for training on Monday," said head coach John Ciano.

Senior midfielder Oskar Aaströem finished with a pair of goals and junior midfielder Filippo Bellú; had a goal and an assist to pace the Saint Rose attack. Sophomore forward Hilmar Halldorsson and sophomore back Nick Koenig also found the back of the net while junior midfielder Harry Soederlind and sophomore midfielder Josh Elliott each picked up an assist.

Junior keeper Ryan Henning was called upon to make one save, while freshman Lucas Morales-Fernandez and senior Ioannis Iatroudis recorded three saves collectively while splitting the game between the posts for the Yellow Jackets (0-2).

Halldorsson provided the game-winner when he headed home a Soederlind cross in the 10th minute. Less than three minutes later, Bellu touched home a cross from Elliott. Bellu then set up Aastroem in the 24th minute to make it 3-0 Saint Rose at the break. Koenig converted a penalty kick in the 56th and Aastroem drove home his own rebound after his initial strike rattled the post in the 76th.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are scheduled to play at Bryant and Stratton-Albany this Wednesday while the Yellow Jackets have home date set for Thursday versus Franklin Pierce.
Note on In-Person Attendance at Games: All games are subject to change based upon COVID-19 surveillance testing for both The College of Saint Rose and its opponents. In addition, per New York State Department of Health guidelines and the Northeast-10 Conference, no spectators at this point will be permitted to attend games scheduled for the Plumeri Sports Complex. The College will continue to monitor this situation with the hope of potentially allowing fans in some capacity at a later date.
