NATIONALLY RANKED PACE TOO MUCH FOR GOLDEN KNIGHTS IN SEASON OPENER

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. –The College of Saint Rose faced a tough test with its first game in more than a year with today's 2021 season-opener at Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace University, which entered the contest ranked #10 in the USILA National Poll.

The Setters (1-1/1-0 NE10) showed their mettle by building a 7-2 lead throughout the opening 11 minutes on the way to a 21-7 victory. The Golden Knights were within striking distance with a five goal, 11-6, halftime deficit, but Pace rattled off six unanswered tallies throughout the third quarter to put itself in the catbird seat.

Sophomore attacks Eddie Baker and Greg Walsh led a balanced Saint Rose offense. Baker scored a pair of goals while Walsh finished with a goal and an assist. Senior attack Jordyn Marchiano, senior midfielder John Loughlin, sophomore midfielder Gabriel Nish, and sophomore attack Cam Smith also found the back of the net.

Sophomores Ryan Fleming and Christian Hunt, along with freshman Ryan Gainor, recorded 17 saves collectively throughout the afternoon.

Attack Alan Singleton, a graduate student, recorded four goals while junior attack Jake Veres and sophomore attack Marcus Ottaviano scored three times apiece for Pace.

Looking ahead, it does not get easier as the Golden Knights are scheduled to host top-ranked Le Moyne on Thursday. The Setters are booked for travel to Long Island to face Adelphi that day.
Note on In-Person Attendance at Games: All games are subject to change based upon COVID-19 surveillance testing for both The College of Saint Rose and its opponents. In addition, per New York State Department of Health guidelines, no spectators at this point will be permitted to attend games scheduled for the Plumeri Sports Complex. The College will continue to monitor this situation with the hope of potentially allowing fans in some capacity at a later date.
