GOLDEN KNIGHTS GIVE NATIONALLY RANKED GANNON A SCARE

Saint Rose Falls 62-56

ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose gave nationally-ranked Gannon a scare before falling 62-56 this afternoon inside the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights (0-5) hung with the visitors for much of the matinee and trailed by just a point with seven minutes left in the game. Saint Rose was down three, 56-53, with 3:36 remaining before sophomore center/forward Sam Pirosko made three straight layups to give Gannon, ranked #12 in the D2SIDA and #23 in the WBCA national polls, the cushion it needed.

"I loved our defensive effort as a team," said Head Coach Whitney Edwards. "We made a point to address our willingness and pride to defend, and we rose to the occasion against a quality opponent who has had a lot of success this season. It's about taking steps forward and we did that this afternoon in how we executed and focused on us."

Freshman guard/forward Catherine Finnerty led the Golden Knights with a season-high 18 points. Junior guard Becca Townes added 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting and topped all participants with eight rebounds.

Gannon (10-1), now winners of six-straight games, had four players score in twin figures. Pirosko led the way with 18 points on 9-of-11 shooting.

The teams are scheduled to play again tomorrow at 12:00 pm. Fans can watch all the action live on the NE10NOW Network.
