GOLDEN KNIGHTS FALL 75-52 TO MERCYHURST

Fedullo Leads All Players with 18 Points


ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose fell 75-52 to visiting Mercyhurst this afternoon in the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. Senior forward Nina Fedullo led the Golden Knights (0-2) with 18 points, on 60.0 percent (6-of-10) shooting, and six rebounds.
 
Freshman guard Ryley Blasetti tossed in 11 points, while freshman guard/forward Kaileigh Hunt added eight points, and team-highs of seven rebounds and two assists.
 
"I really give a lot of credit to Mercyhurst. You can tell that they've played a lot more games in regards to their rhythm and offensive flow," said head coach Whitney Edwards. "We'll watch this back and we'll learn from it. These games with Mercyhurst, one of the top teams in the PSAC, will help us be better and more prepared for next week's competitions."
 
Sophomore guard Jayde Boyd and freshman forward Grace Centrulla recorded 18 points apiece to lead the Lakers, which opened the matinee by netting the first seven points on its way to a 34-19 halftime lead. Mercyhurst, who led by as many as 25, shot 51.9 percent (27-for-52) from the field in the victory.
 
Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled to play next on Tuesday, February 23 at 5:30 pm. Saint Rose begins a home-and-home with American International at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium, while Mercyhurst (9-4) visits Clarion.
Notes: Fedullo and sophomore forward Naeva Rene lead the Black and Gold in scoring at 11.0 points per-game…Saint Rose went 357 days without playing a game due to the COVID-19 pandemic...The Golden Knights concluded the 2019-20 season with a 64-54 setback to visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival American International on February 25, 2020 and opened its 2020-21 campaign yesterday...Seven newcomers join six returning players to make up this year's squad...Yesterday's game marked the head coaching debut for Edwards, who was named the head women's basketball coach in June 2020...The 2007 America East Defensive Player of the Year at the University of New Hampshire spent the last three years as an assistant coach at Northeastern University in Boston.
