FEDULLO'S LAYUP WITH THREE SECONDS LEFT GIVES SAINT ROSE A 52-51 VICTORY OVER SAINT MICHAEL'S

COLCHESTER, VT. – The College of Saint Rose scored with three seconds remaining to earn a 52-51 comeback victory this afternoon at Saint Michael's. Fifth year forward Nina Fedullo converted the game-winning layup in the final moments to help the Golden Knights take the non-conference victory.

After trailing 28-13 at the half, Saint Rose exploded to a 15-3 rally in the middle stages of third quarter to erase a Purple Knights 15-point advantage. The tight battle continued into the late minutes of the fourth quarter, with a senior guard Nicole Anderson knocking down one of two free throws to give Saint Michael's a one-point lead with eight seconds remaining.

Out of a timeout, the Golden Knights isolated Fedullo in the paint, allowing the forward to get a running go-ahead lay-up to fall with 3.6 ticks remaining on the clock. The Saint Rose defense survived a final Purple Knight possession, as senior guard Emma MacDonough drew the front rim on the 3-point shot at the buzzer.

"We talked at halftime about effort and togetherness. We had to be scrappy and gritty in the second half on both ends. Everyone who came in maintained the intensity that was needed," said Head Coach Whitney Edwards. "Our bench kept us in the game the first half and the starters picked it up in the second half to help us get the lead. This game came down to finishing plays, hitting free throws, and team defense. We did those things to earn the win. We competed until the end."

Fedullo and junior guard Becca Townes led the Golden Knights (3-6) with 10 points each. Fedullo also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds while Townes swiped four steals. Sophomore guard Isabel Sanchez was solid on both ends of the court with nine points and three steals.

Anderson and MacDonough paced Saint Michael's (3-6) with 12 points apiece, with senior forward Nicole Ladis chipping in 11 points and eight rebounds. The swarming Saint Rose defense caused 19 Purple Knights turnovers that led to 15 points.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose next faces Saint Thomas Aquinas in non-conference action on December 31 at 1:00 pm. Saint Michael's continues league play against Saint Anselm on December 30 at 2:00 pm.
