GOLDEN KNIGHTS REBOUND FROM HALFTIME DEFICIT TO UPEND ADELPHI 3-2 IN REGULAR-SEASON FINALE

ALBANY, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Nico Faretta came off the bench with 16:00 minutes remaining in regulation and nine minutes later scored the game-winner to lift The College of Saint Rose to a 3-2, come-from-behind win against visiting Adelphi University tonight at Sullivan Field within the Plumeri Sports Complex.

In the process, the Golden Knights (9-5-2/8-3-1 NE10) closed out the regular-season with seven victories in their final eight matches and upended their Northeast-10 Conference rival Panthers for the first time in seven previous meetings.

"This is a special moment for our program. Adelphi is a very talented and well-coached team and we knew this was going to be a difficult match. To come back and win, and earn our program's first ever home playoff game is a really an amazing feeling," said head coach John Ciano.

Third-seed Saint Rose will host sixth-seed Le Moyne in an NE10 Championship Tournament quarterfinal this Saturday, November 6 at 1:00 pm. It will mark the first home postseason match for the Golden Knights in their 40-year history.

As for this evening, senior midfielder Oskar Aastroem and sophomore forward Hilmar Halldorsson accounted for the other two Saint Rose strikes.

The Golden Knights jumped out to a lead a mere 51 seconds in when sophomore midfielder Josh Elliott delivered a cross from the right flank that Aastroem drove home from the middle of the area.

Adelphi leveled it eight minutes later when senior forward Aidan Keenan redirected a shot by senior midfielder Francisco Greco. Senior midfielder Tim de Meij put the Panthers up when he touched in a Keenan feed from deep in the 18-yard box with 16:37 gone by.

However, Saint Rose kept its composure and scored the lone two goals throughout the final 45 minutes.

Halldorsson dribbled in off a counter and finished from about 15-yards out at the 61:32 mark. Faretta capped it by collecting a deflection off a defender and burying his chance to allow the Golden Knights to play a postseason match in the Capital Region.
Senior Day: Seniors David Hamlin, Colin Sherlock, Andrew Lule, and Aastroem were honored prior to today's match in recognition of their outstanding intercollegiate careers.
NE10 Championship Tournament: Saint Rose will be making its fifth appearance in the NE10 Championship Tournament, all in the past nine years. The Golden Knights advanced to the 2019 Championship Final as a sixth-seed, before falling 2-1 at Assumption. They also qualified for the postseason in 2013, 2015, and 2017.
Notes: Saint Rose has a young squad with 25 underclassmen listed on its roster…The Golden Knights have outscored their last eight opponents 18-7…Freshman Tomas Rozman stands third among all NE10 goalkeepers with an .827 save percentage and a 0.86 goals-against-average…Eleven different players have found the back of the net this fall…Elliott and freshman back Victor Boje Henriksen lead the team with six goals each…Elliott was named to the NE10 weekly honor roll Monday…He has registered at least one point in eight of the last nine games.
