GOLDEN KNIGHTS STRIKE IN SECOND OVERTIME TO ADVANCE PAST LE MOYNE IN AN NE10 QUARTERFINAL

ALBANY, N.Y. – Senior midfielder Oskar Aastroem scored the game-winner with less than three minutes left in the second overtime period to propel The College of Saint Rose to today's thrilling 3-2 Northeast-10 Conference Championship Quarterfinal victory against visiting sixth seed Le Moyne.

"I'm really proud of the resiliency and character of our group. We never gave up and played through the final whistle. This was a special moment for our program and school, and I am just really happy we were able to come away with the dramatic win," said head coach John Ciano.

The third seed Golden Knights (10-5-2) twice came back from one-goal deficits to record their third consecutive come-from-behind win and thus advance to a second straight NE10 Championship semifinal.

Saint Rose will visit American International on Wednesday in Springfield, Mass, where the Golden Knights upended the 23rd nationally ranked Yellow Jackets 2-1 a week ago. American International, the second seed, advanced with today's 3-2 quarterfinal victory against visiting seventh seed New Haven.

As for today, Aastroem headed home a free kick off the foot of freshman back Lucas Malmquist for the game-winner that set off a celebration on Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. Malmquist delivered his volley from the right flank towards the left side of the area that Aastroem was just able to get to while running full speed towards the far post.

However, that was only one chapter of the story.

Le Moyne (10-7-0) appeared on its way to the victory with a 2-1 advantage in the final minute of regulation. Saint Rose proved resilient again though as sophomore midfielder Josh Elliott forced overtime by finishing a Malmquist pass off the left side with only 24 seconds showing on the clock.

Saint Rose manufactured a 3-0 shot advantage in the first extra session and with the match appeared headed to a penalty kick shootout, Aastroem came through with arguably the most important goal of his career.

Earlier, the Golden Knights took a 1-0 lead after freshman midfielder Simon Schouby delivered a pass across the top of the area that sophomore back Nick Koenig one-timed home with 18:29 gone by.

The Dolphins leveled it 1-1 with 11 minutes expired in the second half when graduate midfielder Joe Falcone deflected a drive from 15-yards out by junior midfielder Tom Henne. Twenty minutes later, junior forward Own Bauer got to a loose ball deep inside the box and deposited his shot into the top-left corner for a 2-1 Le Moyne advantage.
NE10 Championship Tournament: Saint Rose is making its fifth appearance in the NE10 Championship Tournament, all in the past nine years. The Golden Knights advanced to the 2019 Championship Final as a sixth seed, before falling 2-1 at Assumption. They also qualified for the postseason in 2013, 2015, and 2017.
