GOLDEN KNIGHTS CRUISE IN SEASON-OPENER


STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose opened its season with tonight's convincing 101-65 victory against D'Youville College in the first day of action at the Tournament of Heroes that is being hosted by College of Staten Island.
 
"It was a great opening night for our group as we used a lot of early energy to extend an early lead and we never looked back. We got contributions from everyone who got in the game. We are so grateful to be back playing basketball and we are excited to get back out there tomorrow to play again," said Head Coach Mike Perno.
 
The Golden Knights (1-0) shot 61.3 percent (38-for-62) from the floor, turned 16 Saints' (0-1) turnovers into 25 points, and put four players in double-figures scoring.
 
Freshman forward Shane O'Dell tossed in a game-high 17 points, while sophomore forward Eric Fleming finished with 15 points behind 7-for-8 shooting from the floor. Sophomore guards Manasseh Small and Cartier Bowman added 14 and 11 points respectively off the bench. Freshman guard Tray Alexander handed out six assists and came up with four steals.
 
Senior forward Grant Beyer scored 11 points D'Youville.
 
The Golden Knights took control with a 22-7 run midway through the first half that transformed a 10-6 advantage into a 32-13 lead with 7:53 to go until the break. Saint Rose boosted its advantage to as much as 37, 85-48, with 9:53 remaining in the ballgame.
 
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights will conclude their tournament stay tomorrow with a 3:00 pm game against host Staten Island.
