GOLDEN KNIGHTS COME BACK TO UPEND #23 AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The College of Saint Rose bounced back from an early 1-0 deficit with a pair of goals eight minutes apart late in the first half to upend host #23 American International in Northeast-10 Conference action today.

In the process, the Golden Knights (8-5-2/7-3-1 NE10) snapped the Yellow Jacket's three-match win streak.

"I'm really proud of our performance today. Any time you beat a nationally ranked team on the road, you have to be happy about it. AIC is a talented, well-coached team that is very dangerous. I thought our possession was very sharp today and we defended well as a unit for the entire 90 minutes," said head coach John Ciano.

Sophomore midfielder Josh Elliott tied the match with his team-leading sixth strike of the year with 35:35 expired. Freshman back Lucas Malmquist then finished an Elliott feed at the 43:24 mark for the game-winner after the latter lined a low cross from the right flank that Malmquist tipped in after positioning himself near the goal line.

Earlier, senior forward Josip Validzic put American International (12-2-1/9-2-0 NE10) up 1-0 with 25:52 gone by.

Freshman keeper Tomas Rozman recorded five saves for Saint Rose, while fellow freshman Lucas Morales-Fernandez was equal to the task for the Yellow Jackets.

Overall, Saint Rose generated a 14-12 shot advantage although American International owned possession for 52.0 percent of the match.

Looking ahead, both teams will wrap up their regular-season dockets with 4:00 pm NE10 games Wednesday. The Golden Knights host Adelphi, while the Yellow Jackets travel to Rindge, N.H. to face #5 Franklin Pierce.
Notes: Saint Rose has a young squad with 25 underclassmen listed on its roster…The Golden Knights have now won six of their last seven and are 5-2-1 on the road this autumn…Saint Rose has outscored its last seven opponents 15-5…Freshman back Victor Boje Henriksen was named to the NE10 weekly honor roll Monday…Rozman stands second among all NE10 goalkeepers with an .848 save percentage and a 0.74 goals-against-average.
