GOLDEN KNIGHTS PUT UP VALIANT EFFORT IN EXHIBITION CONTEST AGAINST SIENA

ALBANY, N.Y - The College of Saint Rose put up a valiant effort in tonight's 77-70 exhibition setback to Division I Siena at the Times Union Center.

Senior guard Adam Anderson topped the Golden Knights with 16 points and freshman forward Shane O'Dell added 15 points and seven rebounds. Anderson and O'Dell combined to shoot 13 of 25 from the floor, helping the Golden Knights shoot 42.0 percent from the field as a team.

"I thought the game was played pretty evenly across the board. We just ran out of some juice over the last eight minutes. I'm proud of our effort and our resiliency. We certainly have some positives to build on." said head coach Mike Perno afterwards.

Sophomore forward Eric Fleming gathered a team-high nine rebounds to lead Saint Rose on the boards. Defensively, the trio of O'Dell, Anderson, and freshman guard Tray Alexander combined to register 11 of the Golden Knight's 13 steals on the night.

Siena took a 39-35 lead into the break after graduate student Nick Hopkins buried a 3-pointer with one second remaining in the half. Saint Rose benefited from 13 points from O'Dell in the opening 20 minutes and the Golden Knights forced 13 first-half turnovers to keep the action close.

A 13-4 run by Saint Rose in the middle stages of the second half allowed the Golden Knights to open a 55-49 lead, with fifth year forward Kevin Lynch contributing five points in the rally. Saint Rose would lead by as many as eight points in the second half, but a 20-3 Siena run allowed the Saints to pull away in the final stages of the stanza. Hopkins netted 14 of his game-high 20 points in the final half to help Siena close out the win.

Alongside the strong offensive performance from Hopkins, Siena received 15 points from sophomore guard Aidan Carpenter and 12 points from graduate forward Michael Baer.

Moving forward, Saint Rose will officially open the season against D'Youville on November 12 in Staten Island, N.Y. The 7:30 pm match-up is part of the NE10/ECC Challenge.
