FRIPP SHINES FOR SAINT ROSE IN 3-0 WIN AT QUEENS

FLUSHING, N.Y.- The College of Saint Rose traveled to Queens tonight and defeated the host Knights in straight sets by scores of 26-24, 25-21, and 25-23.

The front-line trio of freshmen middle blockers Karleigh Fripp and Julia Cavalcanti, and senior middle blocker Cassidy Smith were all key for the Golden Knights in the non-conference victory. Fripp's all-around effort resulted in a team-high 10 kills on a .571 attack percentage to go with six solo blocks in the battle at the net.

Cavalcanti and Smith produced strong offensive performances as well, with Cavalcanti tallying eight kills with a .400 strike percentage and Smith contributing seven kills at a .375 efficiency rate.

Three Golden Knights registered 12 or more digs in the win, led by the 14 attacks lifted by freshman outside hitter Juliana Venduro. Junior defensive specialist Megan Mayer and sophomore setter Allison Sellers also totaled 12 digs each for Saint Rose (7-13).

"We were able to stay consistent throughout the entire match and we handled the pressure situations with composure," said head coach Vanessa Volpe-Rivera after the win.

A kill by sophomore setter Valeria Jorge closed out an opening set that saw neither team build more than a three point lead. Cavalcanti landed four of her eight kills in the first frame as Saint Rose took a 1-0 lead in the match behind the tight 26-24 set victory.

Two long offensive stretches helped the Golden Knights win set number two, 25-21. Venduro served the Golden Knights to seven consecutive points in the early stages of the stanza, quickly followed by a 5-0 stretch with Cavalcanti behind the service line. Cavalcanti would go on to combine with Fripp for six kills in the match-clinching 25-23 third set win.

Junior outside hitter Dee-Ana Mitchell finished with a match-high 13 kills and senior libero Danielle Naggar totaled 18 digs for the Knights (3-13).

Moving forward, Saint Rose travels to Waltham, Massachusetts on Friday for a Northeast-10 Conference match-up with Bentley. First set is scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm. Queens also returns to conference play on the road Friday with a 6:00 pm tilt at East Coast Conference rival Daemen.
Notes: Entering play today, Fripp's average of 1.03 blocks per set and the 0.88 blocks per set by Cavalcanti rank first and third in the NE10…As a team, the Golden Knights lead the conference with 2.06 blocks per set...Fripp also holds the fourth-highest strike rate in the league with a .322 swing percentage...Boyrie is 12th in the conference with 3.70 digs per set.
