LOOKING BACK: WOMEN'S LACROSSE EARNS PROGRAM'S FIRST VICTORY IN HOME DEBUT

ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose defeated District of Columbia 18-5 this afternoon to secure the first-ever victory in the history of the Golden Knight women's lacrosse program. The team record now stands at 1-1 through the first two games of the inaugural season.

A hot start for the Golden Knights netted three goals in the first four minutes of the inaugural game on Sullivan Field, before District of Columbia answered with consecutive goals to cut the lead to 3-2. Saint Rose would score 10 of the next 11 strikes to close out a dominating first half with a 13-3 advantage.

Freshman attacker Alexis Farr led the Golden Knights with eight points, contributing four goals and team-high four assists. Farr said after the game, "It was great to get on the field and show everyone what has come of all the hard work we have put in since the fall. We were 110 percent ready to go."

Freshman attacker Deanna Ciliento matched Farr with four goals in the contest. Fellow freshman attacker Emilie Robbins registered three goals and three assists. Freshman midfielder Ashley Burns and attackers Claudia Agostino and Margaret Brent each added two goals to a balanced Saint Rose attack that featured seven different players putting their name in the scoring column.

Freshmen Madeline Yeung and Nicole Frese each made one save on the day in goal for Saint Rose, which successfully converted all six clear opportunities.

Head Coach Kaitlin Gaghan has 18 women on the inaugural team; 16 freshmen, one sophomore and one graduate student. The young roster of the Golden Knights out-shot the Firebirds 40-11 on the afternoon with 30 shots landing on goal.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose begins Northeast-10 Conference action Wednesday at American International in Springfield. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
