CARY, N.C. – The College of Saint Rose scratched back with two runs in the eighth inning to cut a three run deficit to one, but could not get over the final hurdle in today's 7-6 setback to West Virginia State at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.
The lead changed hands three times, before the Yellow Jackets (3-10) pushed across four runs in the home half of the seventh to go up 7-4.
The Golden Knights (4-6) had taken a 4-3 lead in the top half of the frame after sophomore third baseman
Tyler Osborne belted a leadoff double and came around to score on an RBI base hit off the bat of junior second baseman
Remington Almarante.
Sophomore first baseman
Jack McDonald recorded his second consecutive multi-hit game by going 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Saint Rose. Osborne wound up 2-for-4, while senior right-hander
John Braun allowed just one earned run and fanned four throughout 5.0 innings of action.
Senior right fielder Jared Hunt and designated hitter Antonio Brown, a graduate student, had three hits each for West Virginia State.
Going forward, both teams continue their residency at the USA Baseball National Training Complex today. The Golden Knights face Slippery Rock at 5:00 pm, while the Yellow Jackets were scheduled to take on Dominican at 1:00 pm.
